About Lois Szymanski
Author, Lois Szymanski says the books she read as a child changed her life, led her to find real Chincoteague Ponies, and made her the writer she is today. Her books include fiction and nonfiction for all ages, picture books and guides. While most of her books are about ponies, she has also written a fiction series with co-author Shelley Sykes, called the "Gettysburg Ghost Gang". In 2024, her 38th book will be released.
“When I read Misty of Chincoteague,” I became Maureen Beebe. I want my readers to become as immersed in what I write as I was in the horse books I read and absorbed throughout my life.
When her children were small, Lois and her husband Dan helped them get a Chincoteague Pony foal, one that her grandchildren still ride today. These days, she and her husband share their lives with two adorable miniature horses, but they spend countless days on Chincoteague Island and Assateague Island, still chasing the ponies and the pony stories she loves.
